I am habitually ignoring the computer for days on end. I have spent months, years, in my past without a computer. I try to make sure that the time I have to spare is not completely consumed by the computer. It is an addiction for me, and I try to limit my exposure. Somehow, I always come back. Drugs, tobacco and alcohol have no pull on me like the sweet hum of the tower next to my feet, the lulling harmony of the streaming radio, the divine or irreverent revelations of the email, the smooth roll of the mouse on the cartoon printed mouse pad.
You will never see a clock in a casino. They don't want you to know how much time you really have spent there. I have a clock on the screen, and I pay no attention to it. I forget to check when I am in "the zone" with my surfing. I have spent long hours doing virtually nothing, virtually.
I get out nearly every weekday morning, and go walking with a friend. It is a good habit that I have a hard time explaining to my aching muscles. I come home, and sit on my backside, and read, type, and play my way through the rest of the day.
Please save your children from this horrible tragedy of health! Make them go outside and play with sticks. Teach them to run, skip, jump and dance. Remind them of the fun of puddle-jumping. Show them that the world is bigger than the flat-screen panel they see every day. Read with them, and have them share the movie from their imaginations. Make sure to turn on the "television" of the front window, and be certain that they know the animals in your yard better than the countless characters of Pokemon, Ben 10, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or whatever the kids watch these days. Play the movie of life WITH them, and don't forget to replay it all at dinner.

Boy, can I relate! The computer is like a time-sucking magnet for me. I don't really know what the huge appeal is, except it's a mindless activity that lets me unwind after a long day at work. I only got internet service last summer, and before that, I got a lot more housework done.
I hear that. I spend far too much time on one at work. I try to avoid it, period, when I get home for the day.
Maybe a return to pen and pencils or typewriters wouldn't be a bad idea? I may start looking for one.
I hear ya. I'm glad you came by to visit me today though. I'll have to check out that accupressure. Sounds interesting.
